Dr. Seetha Ramanathan, MD, MPA

Twenty years of dedicated experience

Dr. Ramanathan brings over twenty years of experience across clinical care, teaching, research, and systems-level mental health work. Her focus is on supporting women through the psychological and emotional changes that accompany reproductive transitions.

Her clinical and academic work spans menstrual cycle-related mood changes, pregnancy and the postpartum period, fertility-related stressors, and the menopausal transition. Dr. Ramanathan has developed women’s mental health programs, trained clinicians, integrated psychiatric care into OB-GYN and primary care settings, and contributed to research in reproductive psychiatry.

Scope of Practice

Sera Psychiatry for Women provides outpatient psychiatric care for women in New York State, delivered through scheduled telepsychiatry consultations and ongoing treatment. The practice focuses on mental health concerns that arise during reproductive and life transitions, including:

  • Mood and anxiety symptoms during pregnancy and the postpartum period
  • Premenstrual mood and anxiety symptoms
  • Mental health concerns related to fertility treatment or pregnancy loss
  • Perimenopausal and menopausal mood, sleep, and anxiety symptoms
  • Attention and focus concerns in adult women
  • Stress, burnout, and adjustment during major life transitions

Care is personalized, evidence-informed, and provided via secure telepsychiatry to patients located in New York.

Sera Psychiatry for Women does not provide emergency psychiatric services, crisis intervention, inpatient hospitalization, intensive outpatient or partial hospitalization programs, court-ordered or forensic evaluations, fitness-for-duty assessments, or disability determinations. Patients who require a higher level of care will be referred to appropriate local or regional services.
